Copies, replicas and clones.

Every time an ace pilot is matched with the best available motorcycle (as in the case of Gritti and his Puch in 1972) what follows is such a string of successes that the public consciousness is driven to a collective frenzy of excitement and at its height creates a legend.
These kind of events gave rise to a legend and to the nickname still in use today of "bassotto" (basset).
It is not surprising that everyone in the early 70's wanted to be Gritti and also that they all wanted to have his motorcycle.
These dreams are normally not destined to be realized and this is the foregone destiny of all the great official motorcycles and their ace riders.
Gritti's Puch became the exception to the rule, because on the quantity and quality of the countless replicas made one could write volumes.
The first to try were the Fragerio brothers, who almost immediately in 1973 introduced a new "bassotto" version of the Puch.
The motorcycle underwent about 25 changes which gave the motorcycle a gutsier appearance and gave it a very similar look to that of the official racing motorcycles.

Despite the fact that the transformation increased the cost by 60%, knowing that the heart can not be dictated to, there were many prepared to spend this amount of money to be able to realize a dream.
Initially only 40 were going to be produced, divided between the 125 and 175cc, however it is unknown in what numbers they were produced as manufacturing continued over the years due to its success.
To these copies from Treviglio, Silvio Fatichi's (Bruno Birbes' father-in-law) own version was added. From his workshop in Brescia he released this individual version with the slogan: "the transformation of the Puch mass produced motorcycle into the official Puch racing motorcycle".
If this was not enough, Puch themselves, inadvertently encouraged replicas of the famous "bassotto" with their new 1974 model.
