1978 – This year was a milestone year for SWM’s history and it was a decisive year for its destiny. There were signs of a strong growth both on the competitive-sports side and on the commercial side.
The old building located in Via XXV Aprile n. 1/3 in Rivolta D’Adda, was no longer able to host all activities which in the meantime were sent away in order to meet the new needs.
The racing department, dedicated to the preparation of racing bikes competing in off-roads, cross and trial categories was moved to Treviglio, the spare parts warehouse was located in Badalasco and the headquarters remained in Palazzolo Milanese while the plants in Rivolta d’Adda were dedicated to the top production.
The moped line was moved to Guardamiglio (Piacenza), where Mondial’s leftovers had been taken over.
But this solution was meant to be temporary and the decision to build a new, bigger plant was taken in order to meet the needs of the activities which were supposed to be carried out in order to face future commitments.
Bigger company dimensions meant higher economic expenditures, which were thought to be dealt smoothly at that time.

Only a few changes on the new models were carried out for the commercial area, that are the sides with a yellow oval put backwards and more air around the shock-absorbers.
The most meaningful new entry was the new 280 cc model run by Gugliemo Andreini who run and won the 350cc class. This new model was shaped by increasing the cubic volume of the 250.
SWM ended the Italian Championship successfully conquering three classes.
Pierluigi Rottigni won the 125 class while Gualtiero Brissoni won the 250 class and Guglielmo Andreini won the 350 class.
Andrea Marinoni joined this masterpiece ranking 3rd in the 175 class.
Thanks to these successes in the various classes, SWM ranked first also in the special Industry Team ranking.
Gualtiero Brissoni dominated also the European 250 class and won a lot of competitions everywhere in Europe and ranked first at the end of the season.
